21 Writing Wisdoms from Four Hundred Posts

How I’ve learned to become a better writer

Since nervously typing my first one in July 2014, four hundred posts and four years has taught me a lot about myself, the internet and writing.

Today, I’m going to share this knowledge with you.

1. The title is the most important line in your entire post.

Your entire post will be judged by the title. Only your mum will give it the benefit of the doubt, everyone else will judge whether to click based upon the title alone.

2. Angry posts are not popular.

Except with other angry people. If you feel angry and want to write about it, let the torrent of vitriol tumble across the keyboard, then sleep on it before publishing. Writing about anger can be the most cathartic way of dealing with it and far healther than bottling it up and letting it out on a friend, family member or yourself.

3. The more I write, the less I need in life.

The amassed equipment, props and paraphernalia required for my photography work cost a fortune and takes up tons of space — I have seven studio flash heads for some reason. Writing requires a laptop and little else…
