Being Sane? That’s Complete Madness

Several ideas are whizzing around in my head today, stemming from a Salvador Dali quote which became enmeshed with my brain after I saw it on Twitter:

“The only difference between me and a madman is that I’m not mad.” — Salvador Dali

Well, I beg to differ, I think he was mad, that we all are. Perhaps that’s his point, that everyone is mad, hence no-one really is. If the entire world is mad, then madness becomes ‘normal’.

For a long time I’ve pondered what sanity, or insanity really is. Life feels totally insane at times, I often have thoughts and feelings which don’t always fit into a sanitised pigeon-hole marked ‘sane’. So does that make me insane?

Let’s be honest here, I’m sure that bizarre thoughts populate the minds of every individual on the planet. Who has stood on an underground platform, watching the train as it speeds into the station and thought “what if…”? Not from a place of wanting to kill yourself, but because people sometimes do that.

Who has considered having sex with someone of the gender they’re not ‘officially’ attracted to? On a similar note, who has fleetingly considered what it would be like to have sex someone who is utterly…
