Can’t You See What’s In Front of You?
Day 20, Friday 6th April 2018
The reason for starting these daily blogs is to bridge the gap between my lucid, clear thoughts on life and the words I’m able to write on a page when it comes to expressing my thoughts. Yesterday, I wrote about authenticity being the perfect alignment of inner and outer worlds, a state of being that I’ve not yet reached, but frankly, I doubt many people ever have.
Writing every morning aims to enhance my observational skills, because each new day requires a new subject, it requires me to notice something in life, at least enough to write a few hundred words on it. This skill is seen in great novelists, who might take several pages to describing a fleeting thought that passes through the protagonist’s mind in great detail. As the character enters a scene, the author’s description of the environment can be so intense and elucidating that it becomes entirely real to the reader.
Conversely, I have a habit of skimming over the details in life. When I land in a new situation which requires doing something for the first time, new skills come to me very quickly. When the finer details need considering, that’s when I fall behind. Yet, it’s these finer details which really matter in life, should we wish to master anything, or to find the depth and nuance in life.
