Death on Toast
Day 24, Tuesday 10th April 2018
Death became a topic over breakfast this morning.
I have the unappealing, yet no doubt common habit of surfing Twitter at the breakfast table. Nobody shares the breakfast table with me, so it seems perfectly apposite to see what’s occurring in the world via social media. Besides, checking the news at breakfast is steeped in tradition, as a child I watched my father adeptly curl the pages of a broadsheet newspaper around themselves as he checked in with the world at the breakfast table, so what’s wrong with scouring the news digitally?
Of course, the news isn’t what I read, instead it’s the detritus that society auto-spills into the vacuum of social media overnight, littered with the occasional meaningful or relevant post. Amongst the barron landscape stood a couple of emotive tweets about death and dying.
