Travelling whilst working might appear to be the ultimate freedom. Often it becomes a way to ruin a good holiday with work, or simply an outlet for deeper emotional problems.

Digital Workaholics.

Digital Control Freaks.

Digital Adult Children.

Digital Emotional Avoidants.

Digital Fear of Intimacy.

Digital Nomads. I’ve met them all.

Over 8 months of travel, many people have crossed my path. Some are holidaying for only a few weeks or months, chasing the next adventure with carefree abandon, unburdened by work. Others are constantly working with a furrowed brow and an entrepreneurial approach to life, huddled behind a laptop, living the dream. Digital Nomads.

Travellers exploring the world without work are living their best lives. Digital Nomads are keying into a temporary lifestyle in a different place, where roots cannot be put down, yet we’re too busy to be a tourist. Digital Nomadism has lost it’s shine.

Community in a country often comes from a two things. Proficiency in the native language and integration amongst local people. When these two pieces fall into place, friendships grow. These are hard to cultivate in a three month…
