Dogs are as Codependent as Their Owners

I see people getting dogs and it scares me, what are they’re thinking? Until recently, I had one, he was the most handsome pup in the world, a kind and gentle pooch who would happily give over his food to another pup if it desired it more. He had a heartbreaking softness to his demeanour and he was compassionate and patient, he was the happiest, most loved and loving pooch.

Alongside this, he was well trained, one of the best. From 8 weeks of age until he left my care, he was under a daily training routine where I taught him everything a dog needed to know and more, nearly fifty commands were at my disposal and he responded to all with good will and haste.

Cuddles were a particular favourite of his, especially if the giver was a woman, he loved the attention and contact that a cuddle provided. Dogs, like humans, clearly thrive on healthy physical contact.

Yet every time I see someone on Twitter posting joy at the arrival of a puppy, I get sense of fear and terror rise in side me. My dog was re-homed one month ago and since that moment, I’ve become quite anti-dog.

Like many people, I got a dog when I was in a relationship, at a point in my life where I was settling down, or so I thought. The conspirations of life saw that…
