Ideas Don’t Wait — NOW is the Perfect Time

The alarm calls at the same time, seven days a week.

There’s a morning yoga practice.

The to-do list is set up.

The diary is ruthlessly organised.

The coffee is freshly ground, black and steaming hot.

There’s a beautifully supportive and comfortable office chair.

The morning writing practice falls into place.

It’s all there, everything is setup for a day of ground breaking work. The day is primed, ready to receive the ideas that are going to flow through my mind, out of my fingers and into my Apple wireless extended keyboard.

What could possibly go wrong?

Procrastination. That’s exactly what could go wrong.

To-do lists seem to have a de-romantacising effect on tasks, taking the emotive sheen of a fresh idea and sullying it to a dull prospect. When breathtaking ideas appear in my mind which I cannot fathom how to complete in today’s schedule, it goes on the to-do list. When I reach that task later this week, or next, it suddenly seems dull, uninspiring and lacks any of the urgent perfection which the idea embodied when it dangled itself into my consciousness.
