Thanks for such a considered response Laura and I agree with you on many counts. The article I’m posting on Friday speaks of the grave error that is mankind’s pursuit of cheap meat at any cost and the detrimental effects upon the environment, animal welfare and food quality.
The idea of becoming vegan as a ‘vote’ against the current system as opposed to endorsing higher welfare is interesting, it feels that it would be more effective to empower those doing good things around meat rather than cutting out the monetary vote entirely.
It would be great to get some detailed 2018 data on the distribution of veganism as it’s clearly seen a massive rise, however I think my point about disconnection is valid and runs through many food issues. People who live in cities are simply not able to experience the source of their food, which probably leads them to make very different decisions to those who do.
